How to update your N73 to Music Edition

I found this guide at www.expansys.com forums, worked for me - better media player, my media headset controls now work fully! I'm chuffed, good update. There's also a similar one for the Internet Version, which I haven't tried yet.

Although everyone says *THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY* so do at your own risk.

*** ALSO THIS HAS "BRICKED" SOME PEOPLES PHONE SO ATTEMPT AT OWN RISK ***

How do i upgrade my N73 firmware to N73ME.

    1) Download and install Nokia PC Suite. http://www.nokia.com.sg/nokia/0,,88454,00.html
This program allows your PC to recognise your mobile phone.

    2) Download and install Cable driver. http://www.nokia.com.sg/nokia/0,,88481,00.html
This program allows your PC to recognise the USB cable.

    3) Download Nemesis Service Suite and install it. http://mobilewireless.tripod.com/nem...vice_suite.zip
This program allows you to change your mobile phone''s product code.

    2) Download Nokia Software Updater and install it. http://www.nokia.com.sg/nokia/0,,97406,00.html
This program upgrades your mobile phone''s firmware.

    3) Now connect your phone to the computer and choose PC-Suite mode on your mobile phone.

    4) Start Nemesis Service Suite

    5) Push "Scan for new device" (On the top right hand corner)

    6) Go to Phone Info screen. In the right corner, you''ll find box called Product Code.
Change that product code number to your preferred code(see below) and click Enable.
Then click WRITE and in few seconds click READ, and you''ll see that your phones product code has been changed.

    7) Now you can start Nokia Software Updater to flash your mobile phone.

similar thing works to upgrade N80 to N80ie, unfortunately not on nokia updater but you can get the N80ie firmware elsewhere.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

hmmmm.....been a wondering about doing this for my n73...but hadnt originally because I read around that the ME firmware ate battery life and free system memory (cos the media player runs the whole time in the background).....

can anyone confirm this? Iv already debranded the ornage rubbish that was on there, mainly because I changed the product code so I could update to latest official FW

guys I really really really advise against doing this.

Firstly, as the OP pointed out this voids your warranty. Secondly this could constitute breach of contract, depending on your provider. Thirdly, it's very risky. A quick scan around the net, or more detailed research on places such as 3g.co.uk, allaboutsymbian.com, gsmforum etc etc will show you how many people have bricked their phones doing this..

The extra features are not worth the risk to your phone, the *only* real reason to do it is if you are on three and have a version 2.x firmware, as this firmware contains the 'reboot during call' bug and three refuse to release version 3.x of the N73 firmware (on which ME and IE are based).

Or of course if you have money to burn then go ahead Just my opinion of course, but I have done alot of research this week into flashing N73s (as I have one on three ) and i've concluded that trying something like this with such a high value phone is a bit silly =)

Yeah, I saw that too. But I did it and it worked for me, however that is no guarentee. At your own risk. Maybe just try the standard update first and see if that sorts your problems out.

I do like the phone but the media player is what I use most, the media player is a lot better - the headphones I bought with music remote on it now works fully - on the original FW version the remote couldnt start the media player, now it does, I can pause/stop/play, shows the CD cover on the screen, etc.

So Í'm happy, but obviously wouldnt be if I bricked my phone.

*I added a warning above, just in case someone doesnt read that far down.
