That's been available on T-Mobile for a while as the Vario II (slightly difference casing). I would take one over an iPhone any day.

Do you happen to know how old/new that phone is? I'm thinking about getting it on Orange next month, they have it as the SPV M3100.

I'm wondering how old it is because I don't want to buy it and find out the SPV M4100 is out the next week.

Windows Mobile 5 is a massive improvement. Still far from from perfect, but the most versatile and useful phone OS by miles.

Its going to be replaced this year by the HTC Kaiser which is due in Q2 of this year. Apparently is will be thinner than the tytn and also have a built in GPS receiver.

On the strength of their efforts with Vista, I'll reserve judgement until I get to play with the competition, suffice to say that MS has never understood GUI's and their interaction with human beings as well as they would like to think. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The problem with every modern MS OS I've used, is (to quote Jim Allchin), 'lots of random features', but sadly no cohesive way to use them. MS just doesn't seem to 'get it'.

Thanks for the insight! I've had a google on the HTC Kaiser and it does look very interesting indeed. Couldn't find any news on when we might see it offered by mobile operators in the UK (Orange for me) but I think I'll hold out for it nonetheless.

Going way off topic here but will there be a new version of Windows Mobile to coincide with Vista?

Errr.. good point. I forgot to count the P990i, the Treo 750, the SE M600i and the T-Mobile Mda Vario II as 3G pdaphones. The rest are not real smartphones that can be compared to the iphone specs IMO

The Orange Spv M3100 is exactly the Dopod 838 Pro and the HTC TyTN. All of them are made by HTC with some slight design modifications.
