Designer Phones: Dolce & Gabbana / Prada

Ok I see a mobile phone as a necessary evil, others are a little more enthusiastic about them. Does anyone have any comments of the Designer phones?

    A few links:
    The Prada phone by LG

    MOTORAZR V3i Dolce & Gabbana

I'm sure there are a few more, I probably put Apples' iPhone in the same group - only as it appears to be more style of substance imo

    Oh dear.

If you actually look at what famous people use, its either a Motorola Razer (shows they don't have a clue) or a Blackberry (big). None of this designer phone nonsense.

I think they are for people trying too hard. If you want to spend a lot on a phone there are options out there - Vertu will give you a lot more for instance...

WTF, how do they get away with this, it’s basically a V3 with a D&G label on. I suppose this is aimed at people who spend £30 on a plain white CK t-shirt. Where's the design in that?!

I once offered a customer a normal V3i with a gold respray and a software reflash as a much cheaper alternative to the official D+G version. They weren't interested. It seems more about what sort of fashion accessory you want to carry about, and less about the actual bloody phones nowadays. Look at the original Nokia 8800 - less functionality than most series 40 handsets, needs two batteries to keep you going through the day, and it cost more on release than some of Nokia's top Series 60 devices. All this sacrifice for a phone to make you look good down the pub.

Did you actually read the first post? If so, you would have noticed that they were links to LG and Motorola's websites. So they can't be fake.

If you were referring to the post above you, then I apologise.

I prefer the new Motorola RIZR Z8 to all of the designer phones.

At least LG are trying something new with the Prada line. The D&G RAZR is just lazy.

Thankfully, it's not running Motorola software though.

Well if thats your thing, then go for it, spend the money..these 'designer' phones are all about looking cheap and tacky and then charging an absolute fortune because of a designers name on the phone. The motorola is old technology with a new case, and the LG one is similar, but i'm not sure what phone its a remake of..

the iPhone doesn't fit in the same catagory - thats overpriced and not very feature rich yes, BUT it is a technology showcase more thn anything else (due to multitouch), and as such i dont think you can label it in the same way

Short answer is that there are many many many better phones out there in terms of looks and features for a fraction of a price; so unless you are the type of person who would spend £30 on a plain white T-Shirt then i reccomend against one of those phones..and if you are - then god help you.

I think the "designer" phones are ugly and just have a brand slapped on them.

The iPhone (like anything Apple do - yeah, controversial there ) is a gorgeous looking thing. That's real design, not some horrible gold thing with "D&G" slapped across the front.

I'll keep tarring the iPhone with the brush , that "Prada phone by LG" has a touch screen as well - it might turn out to be a cheap iPhone ...

its not the touch screen thats impressive though - nokia has had a touch screen phone available in asia for years now (including handwriting recognition) - its multi-touch thats impressive

read up on "Multi-touch" hmmm ... I suppose any comments about it been good or bad should wait until is there and in use. I still use my phone for calls and the odd text (it can do lots of other stuff) so I see it as over the top.

One thing I would say, my phone has a nice big bright colour display ... which is scratched and I am forever wiping grease from it, what would be innovative is a scratch-less screen (may be from self-cleaning glass), that would impress me.
