Anyone got any decent alternatives to the awful, restrictive iTunes? Looked at sharepod you lose songs put onto the iPod from sharepod if synced subsequently with iTunes and YamiPod which crashes a lot - any suggestions?

Run iPod linux and then use Windows Explorer?
Winamp has a Library Feature, and there are plugins which you can use to transfer music to your iPod. I would suggest giving it a try![]()
I love winamp, but the suggest of using a custom firmware for the ipod is a good one. It will add loads of functionality and allow you to use it with any media player. Either that or the winamp plugin. I use winamp regardless as I find it the best player out there.
Especially when you can make it look like this:

I don't have any problems with iTunes - I used it for a little while myself having used Winamp for years (moved onto Foobar a little later for its flexibility), and it's a cracking organiser.
The one downside to it in my opinion is the need for Quicktime, but if you just install Quicktime Alternative first, then extract the iTunes package, and only install iTunes itself, all is good.![]()
I use iTunes in manual mode for transferring. Anapod Explorer is better, but I'm cheap. I honestly think iTunes is the worst piece of software I've used in years. It does my head in whenever I have to use it, and that's without going into my ethical reasons for disliking ITMS. If nothing else, as an XP user, I find its GUI annoying, its interface unintuitive, the fact it wants to move all my MP3s around just generally strange and it seems to use more memory with 1500 songs in than my Foobar2k installation with over 20,000...
Personally, Foobar2000 is my player of choice, EAC is my ripper of choice and Burrrn is my burner of choice. They all do their jobs well.
