I'd like to dabble into Linux and try a dual boot on my older PC.
I'd be grateful on any advise for a free but good linux OS and is easy to install.
cheers

Depends whether you think dabbling in Linux is buggering around in X or not.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'd post a Linux distro chooser but I don't have enough posts yet.
My personal recommendations are OpenSUSE 10.2, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (rather than 6.10) and Mandriva 2007. They all come in LiveCD varieties which allow you to test without installing anything to a hard drive.
I hope this helps.

OpenSuSE is where I have started.
Mandriva is supposed to be pretty nice.
I gave up about 15 minutes into linux when I couldn't get my wireless to work. It said install the drivers off the cd, but I couldn't even work out how to run it. Then on a forum someone said use ndiswrapper, and I really didn't have a clue what that was.

Yeah ubuntu is great as a free home version
We use Suse/Red hat at work, but it always seems so over complicated for the simple things which ubunto does well.
