    Cryptnet.dll

I had a set of ram go bad on me last week, and one of the things that happened was, on boot up into windows xp home, xp would fail to load explorer.exe and then would hang with no taskbar or anything and it would give an error that cryptnet.dll had failed.

Today, I got the same thing, so I did a repair (the kind of repair where you start off like it was an install) and it has stopped and says "cannot copy the file : cryptnet.dll, make sure the cd is in the drive blah blah.

Does anyone know why this file is giving me problems?

    thanks

p.s. I have vista rc2 on the same drive on a seperate partition.

Sorry don't know why it's causing your prob, but you can download cryptnet.dll from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?cryptnet.

    Just unzip to C:\windows\system32\

One of the probs with this type of thing is that it is likely that more than one file has been affected, and that when you fix the cryptnet.dll, another file will be flagged.

Have you tried cleaning the windows cd.

Sometimes people have got around the "cannot copy the file : cryptnet.dll, make sure the cd is in the drive blah blah." routine by continually repeating the repair stage (don't know why this sometimes works, but it seems to).

    Hope this helps.

Took about 4 retries, right from scratch to get it to complete. It has turned out that all the drives were corrupted as well, and one possibly badly injured. Flaming thing
