    Mail server Help

    Hey,

I have a linux virtual machine currently running Debian.

I also have 8 domains which are pointing(or will be) at the Virtual machine. i`ve managed to sort out the apache side of things and have the sites working.

Problem I have now is setting up the mail for it.

The Debian install I have comes with Exim4 preinstalled.

Basically I want to set up the email for all the domains and have a web based mail client for reading the mails as well as sending the mails on.

I havent had much experience before in this kind of thing so was hoping people could advise if exim is the best option(if so do you know of any guides to configuring it) or if there are any other programs that would do the job better.

    Thanks in advance

    Lots of things to consider,

1.) if you're using webmail - you'll want it to have SSL so that the mail connection is secure, using multiple domains with SSL is rubbish so you're better having a master webmail like "maildomain.coml" and everyone reads their mail through that one domain. That gives you the SSL security on the maildomain.com for everyone.

2.) Exim for virtual domains is dead easy. Here is a quick how to / info page which was the second one down on "exim debian virtual domains" search on google. http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/140

    Heres another one I found

http://koivi.com/exim4-config/ - not read it in detail and it seems to reference unstable, but the process should be the same.

There are tons on that search page. See how you get on and if you want to ask specific questions, ask here or in #debian on irc.freenode.net or on the debian/exim mail lists.

One thing to consider is for webmail you'll also be using your own box as an SMTP server, check your virtual machines IP address is not on a black listed block, and that your reverse DNS map to your virtual domain matches your forward facing host domain, this will help stop other smtp servers rejecting mail from your box.

I`ve got exim all up and running now and so far it seems to be working

Now I just need to install a webmail client.

Any ideas what would be the best webmail program.

    personal choice really,

but squirell mail, sqwebmail, horde, are just a few, just search the debian package repo's and try out what you want.
