    Tri-boot

Recently I have tried to create a triple boot system consisting of XP Pro, Vista Biz, Fedora Core 6 with a little success.

I have managed to get XP + Vista to dual boot (for a while) and now currently I have a Fedora/XP with fedora being the dominant OS (although I wanted it other way round).

However I am trying to figure out the best way to partition the drive. I went 40GB, 50GB, 40GB (XP,Vista,FC) hoping that the other 170GB can be shared between them. Is this possible or does the whole HDD have to be assigned to a particular partion (i.e. cannot "share" the unpartitioned space).

Hope this made sense and srry for the long post

they can't "share" unpartitioned space, but they can share a partition. fat32 is your best choice on that front.

does it have to be fat32 for such a large partition? (since i heard that its best for up to 80 GB or so, with NTFS being better for bigger volumes)

Also is it possible to install/run programs from this extra partition so I can access the same program from either or all the OSs?

have to be? no. but it's the only one with write support out of the box for all three OSes you listed.

partly. the main problem with fat32 is it has a 4gb per file limit

and you can't format partitions bigger than 32gb as fat32 in windows xp/vista

Also is it possible to install/run programs from this extra partition so I can access the same program from either or all the OSs?
not if they use the registry
