Vista 32 or 64

i don't play games on my pc and my question to you guys is am i going to be able to get away with 64bit vista if i buy the OEM version now!

I mainly use:

MS office
MS vx6000 webcam
msn
paintshop pro
itunes
erm printer software but there appears to be 64bit drivers for my printer and new software.

so will i be able to survive untill full support comes arrives?

If you can get drivers for 64 bit, I don't see why you shouldn't go that route.

64bit, its just a lot more future proof. I cant see developers spending time on the 32bit versions really, not for new products anyway.

I am making this decision too... because I am doing a new build the driver situation for 64 bit should be fine.

Like what everyone is saying, it is more future-proofed...

Wait what about monkey island!... goes off to see if scummvm can be played in 64bit...

I just had to make this choice. I would have loved to go down the 64bit route but my printer is still not supported by Vista

I very much doubt there will be any performance increase in the 64bit version over the 32bit version until sometime next year when more 64bit software is released.

I would leave the 64 bit version until sp1 comes out for it, same goes for the 32 bit really.

So if I buy the 32bit version oem now and later on borrow or download a 64bit version I can then install and activate it with my serial?

nope - only ultimate retails gives options of changing to 32/64 bit I believe.

just a question- can Vista Corporate's change also? Just I've been given a 32 bit version of Vista by a mate at work but I'd like 64 bit Vista at some point

I thought ALL vista disks have both 64 and 32 bit on them. Retail people have a key that will work with both, but OEM copies have a key for one or the other. That not true?

I don't think so. My OEM x64 seems to only contain 64 bit and my 32bit AE Upgrade specifically states on the box that the 64 bit disc will have to be sourced separately and may incur a cost.

as far as i know, every key works for 32 bit and for 64 bit.

with retail you can get the cd shipped to you with the other version from microsoft for a few quid

with oem you can borrow one

I'm sure I read on another forum about 4 guys who had x64 but were struggling with it changed to 32 bit, and they had OEM cds. *shrug*

I might torrent the 64bit retail DVD (which includes all 64 bit versions) and see.

Well I can now confirm that a 32 bit key will activate on a 64 bit install disk.
Now I get to do the fun part and see if any of my applications or important hardware works in 64 bit

Thats a plan then, get and install 32bit now, upgrade to 64bit sometime later when it is well supported and I am jealous of any 64bit benefits...
