Possible to have complete Vista boot off USB drive ?

Is it possible to install vista to a USB drive and to boot off that ?

My laptop runs XP, but I would like to try Vista before buying it or formatting my entire HDD.

Booting off USB also sounds like it could increase battery life of my laptop as the hdd (which has xp on it) can remain spun down while I work on the USB stick (if it can be done).

Might be possible, but it probably going to be dog slow, especially if it is a random cheap memory stick.

Anyway, the minimum supported specification is a 20gig drive with 15gig free. Thats one hell of a memory stick.

If you can boot off USB you should be able to use a hard drive in a USB case. If you are going that route and need to buy a drive, you are as well just getting another 2.5" drive and replacing the one in your current system.
