    Excel Idiocy

Right, i was unsure wether to post this in this forum, or the help forum, so i posted it in both.

Basically my mother decided to cleverly save the expenditure for the year over the file for the income for the year. (Not very clever!) And she hasn't backed up the file anywhere. Is there any way to find the old file? Or has she screwed up completely?

    Run an undelete program.
When excel saves a spreadsheet, it saves the file as a random filename, then if theere is already a file with the filename you have told it to save as, deletes that then renames the newly saved spreadsheet to what you want it to be called.
This means that you're never in a situation where both the older version of your spreadsheet and the newer one are corrupted at the same time. It also means running an undelete should find a load of randomly names files and hopefully at least one thats got the same name as the overwritten spreadsheet with a midified date that matches when the roiginal was last modified. That'll be the original
