I built myself a new rig mainly for playback of HD content. HDCP compliant graphics card (ATi x1950) and HDCP compliant display (Dell E228WFP 22inch Widescreen LCD) and a fast cpu (intel core 2 duo).
I've got Vista Ultimate x64 installed and DVD playback works fine, dispite lots of rumours before Vista's launch about built in HD-DVD playback, I read about the complete lack of (nice to see Microsoft supporting HD-DVD so much) so I went on a search for the software required to playback HD-DVD discs. Eventually ran across PowerDVD Ultra which I then went to install.
I connected my HD-DVD drive (Xbox 360 USB one) to my PC, and it could see the media fine with no problems, just not play it back).
PowerDVD ran as its suppose to, it had the HD-DVD logo as people said it would. So all excited, I hit the play button......
First of all the 3d aero got turned off, then... "PowerDVD stopped responding". After so far, failed at the last bit. I ran the HD advisor which said my PC checked out and I tried changing all the video settings and audio settings, no luck. Tried the three HD-DVD's that I own (Serenity, V for Vendetta and Doom) and none of them would work. Looking in the problems report part of vista control panel, I picked up the following error message:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: PowerDVD.exe
Application Version: 7.0.2418.0
Application Timestamp: 45869a83
Fault Module Name: HDDVDAdvNav.dll
Fault Module Version: 1.0.0.1206
Fault Module Timestamp: 457656bf
Am now complete stuck on what to do, I cant find any alternatives for PowerDVD (still extremely disappointed Microsoft managed to make a HD-DVD playback codec for the Xbox 360, but forgot about their operating system which will in a hell of a lot more homes than the Xbox ever could.)
Tried reading through Cyberlinks support FAQs, had no luck there
anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance
