    XP Boot to desktop

Bit strange this one, my father-in-law-to-be is very particular about his computer, he is the only user set up on his PC (Windows XP) and when I was down there at the weekend he wanted a couple of things tweaking, one of which was the drivers on his old Radeon graphics card updating

Well this was fun... after downloading the ATI drivers and uninstalling the old ones, the new drivers wouldn't install because the Windows' net framework' needed updating , eventually I found the right version of net framework and after downloading and installing them the drivers eventually installed.

Now he has the irritating problem that the PC used to boot up automatically into his desktop (being the only user set up on the machine)

Now it boots up to the user Icon, which is completely unnacceptable !!!!!!!! how do you change this ?

    cheers

    John

    Cheers Directhex

That cammand seems to just take me to the user accounts section in the control panel, but I don;t see the option to boot straight to desktop if you are the only user ?

were you sure to keep the 2 at the end of the command? that should give you the old-style control window (which has an autologin setting)

This is a common issue after the installation of the .net framework. If a new user account has been added by the installation, it's safe to delete it from Control Panel \ User Accounts.

You could also download TweakUI and enable the 'auto login' option.

More info about .net and ATI drivers here:
