    Creative Audigy Player Drivers..

    I bought a cheap audigy card from ebay recently, and it works a treat. However, i bought Fable from GAME today to see what it was like, and it kept crashing after the splash screen. A little digging on MS.com enabled me to find the cause of the problem - the sound card drivers.

    So i whacked in my model number, downloaded the new drivers and as soon as i accept the terms and conditions in the installer, the installer crashes..

    This is what it spews out:

    Error Code: -5011 : 0x80040707
    Error Information:
    >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (548)
    pAPP:Creative Sound Blaster Audigy, Audigy 2 series and Audigy 4 series Driver
    PVENDOR:Creative Technology Ltd.

    $9.1.0.429
    @Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 54304.30543

    So whether i'm installing the wrong drivers or something i don't know.. any help?

    The problem could be with your installer, not necessarily the drivers. I'm pretty sure there were some updates to the install shield program at some point.

    Have you also tried the auto-update on creatives site?

    It'll do the same thing as it just downloads the same installer.

    Try going to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional and deleting the contents (don't worry, the next time an installer is run it will regenerate the files).

    Ok i sort of fixed it.

    Turns out there was some inherent problem with Fable and the Audigy driver i was using (the one from the CD). Since the installer kept crashing, the only way to install the new driver was to "extract" the .exe file and then run the program that was in the archive Which seems to have worked..

    Thanks anyway!
