Again didn't want to hijack a thread about XP (styles, Start menu, etc)... So I've made a new one

Why do so many people prefer older OSs like 2000 or 98SE over XP? I think XP is far better than all of the older ones.. It is more up to date, has better support for newer hardware and processors, newer technology peripherals like cameras, wireless, Bluetooth, etc. And is much more customisable and can run nice and fast when kept clean and optimised.

I agree on slower machines 2000 and 98SE will run much faster, but IMHO there's really no excuse for newer high performance PCs (Like most of us here at Hexus are running )

So, opinions/facts/comments?

I use windows XP, it is by far the most stable OS I have used. It runs games faster, and is just much nicer

When I can be arsed, it can look a hell of alot better to, but at the mo I have the Windows Classic look going.

I use XP and 2000Pro on all my systems, tryed Linux for a while ... if you've grown up with DOS then Windows, its hard to adjust although I'm not saying its a bad OS!

I use Win XP Pro. 2000 always caused me sound problems in the past with via motherboards, so haven't used it since. Never had any problems with XP Pro, it's fast and stable.

i hated 2000, it rubbed me up the wrong way somehow all the times i tried it.

i run XP on my desktop, and 2k3 on my server, both of which are far more pleasant than anything before them (in their respective tasks).

i'm currently in a transition period r.e. linux, as i'm waiting for the next release of my favoured distro (the current one dislikes booting from my Promise 20376 RAID controller)

NT4 workstation was pretty nice before 2k and XP came along, stable and not as annoying as 9x.

Using XP now though.

I use xp pro on my desktop, have used 98 and ME but this xp rocks, its the most stable sytem i have ever used, i cannot understand when i hear people disin it, maybe they dont understand puters as much as they think or maybe they just try to use it on too older systems.

tried windows xp and even windows 2003 server and soon reformatted. they're too sluggish and too much eye candy. i'll stick with windows 2000 professional - stable, does what i want it to do, none of this automatic 'microsoft is doing this in your best interests' rubbish.

if only macromedia made flash mx 2004 professional for linux, i'd love to go back to debian...

One of the many reasons I hate XP:

Take a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum edition.
Take all the software that comes with the card.
Try run any of them under XP, with and without "compatibility".
Give up when that fails and ditch XP.

xp is far the best windows platform in my opinion - speaking as somebody that has never needed to use one of the server editions. But I have used all other versions.

xp is good if you keep those patches up-to-date. But sometimes I find that older software does not work, and the compatibility wizard thingy doesn't seem to work that well.
