    Deleting .dll files in Vista

I'm trying to correct a problem in Steam by deleting specific files as directed but Vista says I don't have permissions to delete the .dlls, even though I am the administrator! I've made sure they arn't read only, but still no luck.

Vista can be a bit bullet proof in deleting files esp system files:-

Try.... click on computer icon/ choosefile/right click/properties/security/and tick for full control.

If you have dual boot try deleting from there, but then I opened a thread either here or on another forum.........does anyone know of a "killer" file manager that could do the job easily, but got no response. Also I haven't tried booting from Hiren's CD to check their file managers out.

Edit: just checked I did post here and did try Hiren's boot CD, my problem was I had windows (vista) renamed "old" on my computer and I couldn't delete the directory and contents....never bothered to solve it as it was quicker to format and start again. Maybe my computer was acting wierd at that time, so you can still try what I have mentioned above and it would be interesting to know how you got on.

    Hi.
    Thanks for that.
I tried it, but all my permissions are set to full control anyway. It still won't let me delete these files!

I saw on the team help files that I need to delete these specific .dll files to overcome a problem in Steam, so I can't play CS until Iv'e sorted it

Vista is annoying in so many ways.

    You legend!
    Thanks.

I'm now back up and running having deleted those pesky files.

    Cheers.
