    Microsoft 70-270

What do i need to be running on my server to complete the 70-270 course? I know the 70-270 is a client exam, but i noticed you have to connect to a domain (blah blah blah). My server is running DHCP, DNS, AD and fileserver. I would like to get it all set before i start studying, im guessing i need to set up the print server, but anything else?

    Thanks

I did 270 without a test server I think - there are a couple of good online labs you can try too.

You'll cover a lot of the AD / and Network infrastructure stuff in later modules so get the books for them too .

later modules as in the book or as in the exams?

Im tempted to use transcender practice exams, heard some good things about them.

im planning on doing the 270 > 291 > 290 > Then either the Exchange, SQL or Security exam.

    as in the exams

the client one uses more server than the server uses client , therefore I'd do the client ones after 290/291 as its pretty easy and will give you a break before your elective ( do the SQL one and it would be easier to upgrade to MCDBA )

Yer ive seen the track route to get the MCDBA and MCSE at the same time Sneaky route hehe...

I got the 70-290 book, opened it and started reading.. got to the bit about setting up the server, step X: install DHCP, DNS blah blah... Step Y: The services are installed...errrr, i was thinking, what are the configuration options lol. So i bought the 70-270 book and thought i would start from here. Although i have set up my server though.

there is more to DHCP than just installing it - not sure if the books show that in as much detail etc. You can probably get away with default configs for 270 , but later on you'll want to look into a little more depth.

I got a step-by-step guide from the microsoft knowledge database thing. Took me through a few things and also i used to set up my test server. Im hoping the 291 goes into the server roles in greater detail, mainly the DNS and DHCP, as i saw there is a seperate exam in AD infrastructure which i will take at a later date.

edit: I also use AD on a regular basis at work and setting up PCs in general so im happy with that side of things.

The most fundamental thing you need to know is that no DNS = no AD

291 & 293 do that side of things in more detail.

yep for the pure simple fact of dns = no domain name = no domain controller?

Quick Q, WSUS, SUS and SMS. WSUS and SUS are about windows updates and SMS is about management. Is that right? Also which one replaced which?
