    VxFS and VxVM

Anyone used these? I'm seeing lots of work requiring them at the moment, but I can't find anywhere to buy a license download an eval copy.

    Cheers...

I use them a lot, you cannot buy them for home use as licenses are between 15 - 60k depending on your package.

they are not simple to use or made for the home user. They are enterprise toolsets for highly experienced users.

thats not to say you can't get evlauation licenses, but you're only really going to get one if you a big company evaluating a product, not "jim from wantingtolearn.com"

They are really quiet fussy on this

Veritas don't typically do home user software, it's large corporate stuff usually.

I know - I usually do work for massive corporates. It's quite unusual for even Enterprise level products not to have evaluation versions.

Yes, there are 30 or 60 (I think they do 60 now) temporary or evaluation licenses, that are tired to a specific machine verified by a few factors (one used to be the host id - but this stopped in later versions).

Full licenses are transferable between machines.

Before they give out temporary licenses they send a sales guy around (if you've never bought the products before) who evaluates what and why your evaluating, and will be interested in time scales to buy, how many machines etc etc.

If you want a "demo" of the programs he'll invite you to the vertias offices to show you a demo on the lab which you'll not really be able to touch much.

VX products are closley guarded and the skill set and training are in always in demand so vertias and now symantic do a lot to protect that.

Give them a call and try it

Yeh, that's what we typically do, and I'm sure it's the same across all of our offices. I've never heard of this software and I work for the comapny(s) heh.
