xvid to DVD loses sync when encoding in Nero

    Ehup,

I've been having a problem for a while with this. I've got some xVid files that play perfectly on the PC and Mac, but when I use Nero to author them into DVDs, the sound/video sync is always a few seconds off. Tried it with various files and various types of DVD, but still get an issue.

Any ideas on how to fix it other than importing it into VirtualDub and re-exporting it :-S

Is the sync out when you play it back on the computer or out when you play it on a standalone player.

I've *always* had this problem whenever I have tried to do this with nero..or in fact most all-in-one solutions. That said there are tools that do a much better job

I personally like AVI2DVD, Vistas DVD Maker or TMPGenc, but rather than type a tutorial for you take a look here:

Id second AVI2DVD really good tool.
I also have never managed to transcode anything in Nero without getting sync issues.

I have always found that a good workaround to audio sync issues when converting to DVD is to make sure the DVD has a lot of chapter points.

Each chapter point re-syncs the audio and it normally takes a good 15mins or so before the audio sync issue becomes audible.

I used to have this problem and i think it seems to be fixed by burning the DVD in the correct broadcast format.

If you have an Xvid/DivX file from an NTSC source then burn it to DVD as an NTSC disc. It's always worked for me when using Nero Vision Express.

The reason is probably due to the 4% speedup with PAL over NTSC. So if you burn a file originally broadcast in NTSC to a PAL DVD then the audio is 4% faster, so it'll start off in sync but gradually get worse as you get further in, with the picture lagging the audio.

    Cheers for the continued help.

I've 'sort of' got it sorted. By 'sort of' I mean I used Roxio Toast 7 Titanium on the Mac, just dragged and dropped the files in and authored it, and everything seems to play fine!

I'm still going to fiddle around with it on the PC though.
