    Vista DVD Playback

OK, just bought PowerDVD 7 for my Vista machine... before I installed it I put a DVD in... and it popped up offering me the chance to play it in VLC, WMP or Media Center. Chose Media Center and, surprisingly, it played perfectly.

I know XP didn't have the ability to play DVD's without an addon decoder such as PowerDVD... has this changed or is it something else I've installed that has given it this ability?

Media Centre offers DVD playback by default as far as I know - it'd be a bit silly to offer software sold as "media centre" if it couldn't play one of the most common formats available.

Media Centre is built in to Vista (very useful if you've got a 360 on the network!), I can play DVDs and have no additional software.

    It's all rather nifty!

Media Center provides the DVD Decoder. So you'll only get that with Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate.
