Cannot load the nvraid sys & inf files during XP install
Cannot load the nvraid.sys, nvraid.inf, nvraidco.dll, nvatabus.sys, nvatabus.inf files on a ECF NFORCE4M-A Motherboard.
After setting up the 2 SATA hard drives to be a "RAID 0" setup the nv:confused: * files won't load. The hard drives are formatted and recognized as 1 drive, but when I get to the stage where the nv* files are to load they won't load from the a:drive/floppy even though the computer is trying to find them. I copied the files from the Motherboard CD and also from your ECS website, but neither one works.

I'm having the same trouble. Did you find a fix? I assume I'm doing something wrong but I'm stumped.
Take care,
Andy.
Re: Cannot load the nvraid sys & inf files during XP install
Is there power to the floppy drive? Is the floppy drive cable in the right way - try flipping the floppy cable around. Is the a: drive enabled in the bios?
Re: Cannot load the nvraid sys & inf files during XP install
Are you, by any chance, using a slipstreamed/automated install XP CD? If so the problem you have is because of a bug in XP where it initially loads the files from the floppy (the bit where you select them) but the latter install part fails because it's actually looking for the drivers in a different place. Yes really! What you need to do is ALSO copy the drivers (on the floppy disk) into a sub directory structure like this:
A:\$OEM$\TEXTMODE (put the drivers in this sub dir)
This one drove me nuts once too :)
Re: Cannot load the nvraid sys & inf files during XP install
Thank you both for your interest.
iranu: I have checked my FDD and it's fine. It works from Windows and is read after selecting F6 during the installation of Windows. It's later that the files can't be found. I did think it might be a problem for a while.
dangel: Yes it is a slipstreamed disk of sorts. It's a manufacturers (MESH) restore disk and includes XP SP2 amongst other things. I'll try your suggestion. I'm also in the process of adding nVidea drivers to another installation disk using nLite.
I'll let you know what happens.
Take care,
Andy.
Re: Cannot load the nvraid sys & inf files during XP install
Sanity restored... well, to previous levels anyway.
I didn't actually use F6 in the end, but putting the drivers into the sub-directory you suggested would have worked.
I made another installation disk. By default, the drivers are in the 'wrong' folders because of the way the OEM files have been added. Once they're in the right place, the installation continues.
Anyway, Windows is loading now and hopefully, that's it. It's odd, but I've seen a lot of posts detailing the same problem but never a fix. I'd removed and tested everything I could get a screwdriver to and was about to give up on RAID. You should write a book ;-)
Thanks again.
