    Whois Opt-Out & GoogleAdSense

From what I understand and after reading stuff on Nominet to be able to opt-out the registrant...

However and this may have an obvious answer but if someone opts out can they rightfully/legally still have or then implement a Google-Adsense type program on their site where their site:
    - generates X amount of income.
    - is not their profession (i.e it's for fun or a hobby).
    - does not take part in any business dealings .

I wish to have my address details blanked out for my site since it is a home address, but I would also like some sort of pay-per click system running should the site grow and it becomes feasible. I don't want to get entangled in any legal issues, hence why I am trying to find this out before I take any further action.

I have emailed Nominet about this but they just did a copy & paste job from their site. They didn't actually answer the question I asked of them which was similar to the above.

    EDIT:
I have another question now that I'm on the subject of domains. If I register a .net domain is there anything that can be done to avoid my home address being shown on the Whois lookup? I really hate the idea of my home address being viewable to any idiot out there. The site is not a registered buisness, so I can't use that as an address location. Right now it's just for fun and for me to gain experience of running a website.

Most domain registrars will offer whois privacy where they put their contact details in and forward any emails to your real address. Two off the top of my head are Namecheap and Godaddy, but I know there's more.

Or, register it to another address you have access to. It needs to be a real address where you can be contacted though, otherwise you can lose the domain if someone complains.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that means that you don't actually own the domain name - not sure whether there's any truth in it though!

    Err... no.

    https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/dbp/landing.asp?ci=257
    * Your new or existing domain is registered in the name of Domains By Proxy -- so their information is made public -- not yours.
    * You retain full benefits of domain registration. You can cancel, sell, renew, or transfer your domain; set-up name servers for your domain; and resolve disputes involving your domain.
    * The patent-pending registration and email handling systems let you manage and control all postal mail and email addressed to the domain you have registered, as well as the domain's contact information.
    * Your domain registration is safe and insured against loss.
I suppose if the company went bust then you would have problems, but that's why you use a decent company to register, isn't it?

Thanks for your advise bobby. I sussed nameCheap out and they appear to have an abnormally high reputation around the net. I went with them in the end and they provide whoisGuard protection from whois contact information. I'm waiting for their details to filter through right now since mine are still displayed on whois sites. I was told it could take upto 24 hours to filter through.

On my travels the last couple of days I'm pretty sure I came across information supporting mikes post, but nameCheap have that covered to; I retain control of the domain like with Godaddy. It may come down to the registrar something like this might.

If you've had the domain registered with your real details, it's possible domaintools (aka whois.sc) might have picked it up.

e.g http://whois.domaintools.com/hexus.net - scroll down to whois history and you can see there have been 41 different whois entries for hexus.net! You have to pay to view the archived details though, so it's not something that idle browsers can find.
