XP Home Reinstall - Getting the right disc

I've said for about 6 months that I'd fix my flatmates laptop, Finally getting around to doing it.

Having had a look through it I can't be arsed to even begin clearing out the crap and sorting the problems so I'm going to cop out and reinstall Windows.

It's a Dell and has the XP Home license on the bottom of the unit, all is fine there. The question is how would I go about legally getting the right XP Home disc to reinstall Windows for him? Naturally he has no idea where the restore discs are so that option is out the window (excuse the pun).

There are so many different revisions, versions and licenses for MS products that I'm not even sure if this is possible legally

I think you can take an iso of a standard home disc, change a few characters in one of the files, and reburn it. That way it becomes a Dell OEM disc, and accepts the keycode.

Someone else can probably explain it better, but thats the way to do it

Or you could ring up dell and ask for another copy of the restore disk, for a nominal fee.
