do u mean Ptipbmf? if so
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/startup/ru...de/Ptipbmf.phpInstalled with the miniport drivers for Promise hard drive controllers in both RAID and non-RAID installations. May be necessary in order to maintain preferences applied to the RAID array connected to the Promise controller
You know you could have just added to the same thread?![]()
It was a toss up - but given my general lack of posting on the more general forums - I thought I'd 'do my bit' for my profile
Problem with Google (and some of the replies you get from people on forums - but I do appreciate the replies!) is that what I am actually looking for is a 100% hard & fast answer on whether or not I can delete the process/service. The first term I could not get any decent Google listings for (ALCMTR.exe) - but it did offer plenty of links for something similar with an 'x' in the middle - but I have no idea if it is the same thing
Here seems to be the upshot:-
ALCMTR: Realtek audio related - I use an add-in card - so deletion should be OK
DLACTRLW: Confusing - I don't use a Sonic product and when I try to 'drag & drop' files to a DVD - it does not work. My guess is that this has been installed 'at some point in the past' as part of another product - and that deleting it will not have any negative effect
PTIPBMF: Promise module necessary for RAID - which I don't use - so also cool to delete
If this analysis is correct, then I can lose these 3 processes and my PC will be slightly 'cleaner'
Sound about right ?
When you say delete, i take it you're just disabling them to run at startup?
I don't think you can do any damage by turning them off, Windows has safeguards to stop you from screwing up your PC by turning off important processes (i think..)
I'd try just closing them in task manager when you boot up and if nothing happens by the end of your "session" then you're probably fine.
How can I possibly disagree with an able physicist ?
<disables junk>
