Microsoft Windows Update Problems...

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the latest Windows updates?

We rolled out the latest Windows updates (for W2k - KB930178, KB931784, KB932168 WXP - KB931784, KB930178, KB931261, KB932168, KB935448, Office 2003 - KB932330) released on 10th April 07 - but have started having problems with a lot of PCs - slowness, svchost at 100%, blue screen, and going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com when it's searching for updates it searches forever (for about 10 minutes) and sticks on the "searching for updates" page...

Yeah, my WinXP install suffers from the occasional svchost 'infinite' looping wastage now.

Ive not had any problems with updates.

Ditto, there's a fix though.

I reported the error, got a link followed it and all's good again.

I didn't keep the link but the file I had to download was called;

WindowsXP-KB927891-v2-x86-ENU

Of course, YMMV

what a pain in the ass had a laptop here yesterday that has svchost using 100% cpu downloaded an update to fix it but it didnt work

I'm getting this problem on a Latitude X300; thing is, svchost is used by so many applications, and the error messages are so uselessly bloody generic that finding the actual problem's a right pain.

You might find it's the Automatic Updates service that's hogging the CPU time, using svchost. Try disabling it in Service manager

Applied the recommended fix, disabled the service manager, and SVCHOST still at 100%. What now? Any way to find out what SVCHOST is doing? /Stu

Check your firewall. I used Comodo firewall. Then discovered that it was conflicting with some vista updates. I uninstalled comodo and used vista firewall and no update problems.
