So how do you take an image of an XP/Vista install for if/when the raid 0 array dies?
It's another one of those things I've never done before![]()

RAID can be more difficult than a standard drive, but Acronis True Images picks up works fine with my RAID0 array (Intel ICHR8 onboard controller).
Can definitely recommend Acronis, truly great and easy software. Whatever you do, stay away from Norton/Systemworks - they are truly awful!
This may sound like a ridiculous question, it's one of those things I always wanted to ask but thought I'd look like an idiot if I did. How much space do images take up? For example if I made an image of a clean install, I think that's about 4Gb, would it take up 4Gb of space or is there some form of compression?
you can usually choose the level of compression, yep. In my experience, expect to be able to save 50% or so, so your 4GB install would compress to a 2GB disk image.
Another vote for Acronis, though I have been beta-testing the new version of Ghost (12, I think) and it's come on in leaps and bounds.
