One new active folder! Now.. MOAR!
My 8800GT is chugging away quite nicely. We just have to hope that now I'm back at Uni for revision week, the mother doesnt realise the folding machine is on and think its a mistake.
Top 3 producer! This is much better than CPC/BT - I'm a big fish, in a small (hopefully growing) pond!
As promised a few pages back, I've reached my target folding for Biztech/Custom PC, now it's time to switch!
As from 8pm tonight I'm a Hexus boy.
Think I'll start a work log to track the change, record the PPD and record my methodlogy. I've got 2 watercooled GTX 295s that're sitting going spare. I'm only folding on my GTX 8800 testbed and GTX 285.
Anyone got any clear and concise details on setting up the GTX 295 to fold on both cores, including shortcuts to appropriate software?
OS is Win 7 x64 (Multimedia Server) with GTX 285 and XP pro on the GTX 8800
.. and now we have two more machines folding for Team Hexus.
errrrr. What now?
Well, I've left my gaming machine turned off from folding during the British Summer (ie 5 hot days in May) and have now attained the dizzy height of 44th (as of 4th June 12:43) already, which I'm very pleased with, but I'm very dissappointed to see that with 2 gfx cards folding (a GTX 285 and a GTX 8800) that I'm the top producing user by quite some way!
Anyone got any ideas how we can drum up some enthusiasm/interest for this very noble cause?
I'd love to see Hexus get into the top 100 folders because the community here seems really friendly, and there isn't too much needless trolling that goes on (have to admit, re-reading some of my comments on "Microsoft suffers Computex blues" that I am probably guilty of that a bit myself)
I have a water cooling system that I need to put into my File/folding server which I'm going to do a photo journal for, along with accompanying setup screen shots etc, but with the weather being so hot, I've steered well clear of my computer room of late.
I'd love to get more involved, so if anyone has any ideas, around folding, the please let's hear them!

Hehe yes I was amazed a few weeks back when I managed top producer with my 8800GT folding 24/7
I think with the recession and all people are trying to save money on electricity, plus maybe selling old hardware that could be used for folding.
I personally had to stop after I dropped a bit of plastic in my 8800GT's fan without realizing, then turned on the PC, the fan couldnt spin, and the GPU melted.
I'm looking out for a bargainous 9800GT green, 9600GSO or something of that ilk to replace it though. I dont fold on my main rig purely because ATi folding is so dissapointing, plus the fact that I'm always using it, and with only 2 cores the CPU is usually required.
If I win the lottery I'll build myself a nice underground folding farm, with the secondary purpose of heating my house . Hex Cores could be great, 2 cores running two GPU's and still having 4 cores spare to run the SMP client.
Has anyone managed to get both cores of a GTX 295 folding on Windows 7 X64 without using dummy plugs?
I've extended my desktop and that appears to work, and I have set up shortcuts to the folding client (systray one) but no joy.
Anyone?

I've been watching the Hexus stats fo the past few months, and to put it politely, I was surprised to see how few people are folding for Hexus. I thought to myself that this was a shame for such a thriving community, and that bearing how much I read and enjoy reading the content published on Hexus, I really should change from Custom PC/Biz-tech - this I did in May 2010, and as of today I've been the top producer for some time, and climbed up the ranks to a dizzy 12th place in just 3 months.
So I thought to myself, "how come Custom PC/Biztech have so many people contributing, and how can we temp people to come back to Hexus?"
I do realise that in the summer months, few people have the need of a pc sitting there churning out folding stats and lots of heat, so I'd like to turn the question back to those who contribute?
Custom PC have a leaderboard which they publish every month showing those who have achieved notable landmarks each month, and I was thinking of doing something similar as a start point. Maybe a "Points This month" table for Hexus, and a team update so that we can see month by month how things are moving on and changing.
I appreciate that this information is available here but this doesn't track where we were and what has changed within Hexus. I'm sure that people would like to see their names up in lights on their favourite site?
Question to you all out there..... Is this worth doing or am I talking to the wrong forum? If the concencus is that this is worthwhile, then does anyone else have any suggestions?
I've recently lost two relatives to cancer, a work colleague to throat canceer, and my mother is fighting breast cancer.
I know that what we're doing here probably won't change any of the lives that are touched by this terrible dissease, but it's a very worthy goal and a fantastic way of benching, and I don't see why we can't have a little bit of fun and some friendly competition.
Why not reward those good folks out there folding in the name of hexus?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

Good idea there. I've looked at this page when I've started folding a few months ago, and this thread looked all but dead. I'm currently folding for one other forum which holds a competition monthly, when it runs out of prizes (non-material ones ) I may join the Hexus team.
But really, this place needs more action. In addition to monthly updates, maybe something like "show us the hardware you're folding on" thread and a thread to whine and joy on various events (like "yay, we passed team foldersunited" or "boo hoo, lost a WU due to unstable OC"). This thread has become too big to be convenient.
i recently renegaded from the custom pc/bit-tech team because: i don't use their forums so not member of their community, and i thought i could do more good for smaller team here.
but finding it tough to fold atm with the heat, in winter i can run up to 10,000 ppd but atm it's nowhere near that or else i'd boil, and nvidia GPU hardware has kind of stood still for the last two years in terms of value ppd/$
i agree with your idea though would be good to have a board updately monthly with top performers and new members etc.
I got quite into the folding business a few months ago and if I remember correctly, I hit no. 24, which was my plan (Michael-F). Then summer appeared and it all went a bit downhill.
I'm more than willing to start again and what Tattysnuc said in post #234 sounds like a good plan, hopefully it will motivate a few more people into donating some idle graphics cards to the cause.
Also, how do you get that stat tracker in your sig like what shbris has? I'd like to get me one of them...
EDIT: I've got the GPU and the SMP client running now, depending on the ppd and heat produced (my room is quite hot enough already), I'll decide whether to keep on with the CPU one or not.

Well, I've turned off the SMP one due to heat and it doesn't get nearly as many ppd as the GPU client so I'll leave my 8800GT chugging away. I'm thinking of buying a new graphics card a bit later in the summer, are nVidia's still far superior to ATI in the folding respect?
i see you found how to get it working!
but for others interest in a folding sig, head here:
