Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
Currently folding again on an on/off basis. Work machine has a Q9950 I think it is which folds 8am - 5pm and then the q6600 at home when I am not using the PC for much. Although its using 4 cores on both machines they are all taking 6+ hours to do a WU. Tried getting the 5870 folding but no matter on the version I use from Folding@Home for the GPU I get messages saying the card isn't supported.
Won't be making a massive contribution to the team in comparison to other team members but I will be folding when I can.

Well, probably it's safe to assume that the work units that are bigger would carry a bigger credit - how much is that to be worth it is another question :juggle:
Regarding the GPU WUs, yes, when I was folding with my VGA (ATI, so stopped bothering once got SMP client running) it would do a WU every couple hours as well - it's the SMP units that are (on my PC at least) from 14 hours of pure folding to 48 hours (only got one of these so far).

You want to use the "-forcegpu ati_r700"
Start up the client, then go to configure
Go to the advance tab.
At the bottom in additional client parameters type in -forcegpu ati_r700
and it should work once you restart
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
Just moved up to 4th in terms of 24 hour average. Woo!

That's half the issue. I found the fix you just posted but the client won't even get to the stage where I can see the advanced options. It loads, then quits out instantly moaning that the 5870 Asus card is not supported by the client :/ Doesn't give the option to let me get to the client running without folding. Allows no choice to carry on regardless. I will look into it more in the future, for now the q6600 will have to do running the odd few hours here and there.
Work machine won't be folding until next week as I am off work atm. Work is forcing me to use my holiday time built up, so not arguing :D

Before you press ok, the folding icon should appear in the part by the clock, right click on it and go to configure.

In the shortcut which you run, go to its properties -> shortcut -> target. There you should see "C:\blabla\fah.exe". After it type -forcegpu ati_r700 so it looks like this:
Code:
"C:\blabla\fah.exe" -forcegpu ati_r700
Should cure your problem.
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
Bit of a thread revival but can i run the CPU and GPU client at the same time.
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
You can but you might want to give the GPU client a core to itself or give it a higher affinity in task manager so you don't 'starve' the GPU client.
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
How efficient is the PS3?
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
If you have an ATI card, then don't bother - the GPU client eats a whole core and bogs down the SMP (I'm assuming you're using SMP, right?).
nVidia GPU client is said to be not at all CPU-hungry, so you might just run them in tandem, and you don't even have to bother to allocate a whole core to that (or so they say).
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
My CPU usage is at 35% whenfolding! :x
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
Are you running the SMP client? Did you remember to put the -smp flag in the shortcut?

yeah I am, it was just a weird WU, now one that required 500000 steps instead of 250000 and using 95% CPU load :)

Actually, the 500k ones are pretty common and relatively easy to fold.
ATM I'm folding a 2M-step unit, that takes more than a day of pure folding on my 2.8GHz X4 Phenom
Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home
Not surprised. I take about 16 hours for 500k.
