I've got my client back up and running :D had a break from last summer till now
I just joined up (hi) and it says it's going to take about a month to complete a WU... lol. Oh dear.
Every little helps :p
I only have it on one server now (dont ask), but it's running two SMP clients...
It's updated itself and said the WU will be finished tomorrow. Couldn't understand all the faff about SMP so just installed the client for one core. :)
ive just joined and it says 31 days till completion... lol
in real time id say thats 4 months given my pc aint on 24/7
It will take a few steps to sort out how long it will actually take. On the first page of this thread is a link to how points are calculated and included in that are some estimated times for unit completions which should give you a better idea of how long its going to take.
Oh and welcome and thanks for joining every little helps :)
Figured that as I use Hexus far more than the other site I had as my team that I would switch it over to you guys.
well, that's because we're sexy!
sexeh!!!
I've got the SMP version up and running on my machine fine.
I may be being a bit of a thicky but is there any way to collapse the program window down to the tray rather than the taskbar?
2.8 Quaddy (SMP mode) burning away 11hrs a day (Should help nicely :)). Averaging a WU every other day, varying sizes being pulled down.
I've noticed that the client crashes a fair amount when left full-screen when a WU completes, but is fine when the display is turned off (Taskbar only). [Vista64/nVidia gfx]
Hello,
Just joined up, figured I should do something useful with my computer. I've got a 15187388 byte work unit (I think) and it's saying there's 500000 steps to do, after 13 minutes it has completed 5000 units so I should be done in about 20 hours.
Anyway, my CPU is maxed out by this thing, is that supposed to happen? I was under the impression that it used idle CPU cycles and would be unnoticeable. Instead I've got 65 degrees on my CPU and fans on full which is a bit annoying.
Well, in my opinion "using idle cycles" should mean "running in the background and not soaking up power like an electro-sponge" has anyone worked out how much it costs them for their F@H score?
How could it "use" idle cycles and not require power and hence generate heat?
As to how much it costs that will all depend on how much your electricity costs per unit and how much additional power your computer uses when running under load compared to idling if you want to check then you will need to use a power meter to monitor power usage in both states.
The other thing that some people may point out is that as most of the energy is turned into heat you can use your PC as a room heater ;) as long as you are not paying to cool the room (ie air conditioning) then the energy will be helping to reduce your heating bill!
