    MOM.exe ?!?!?

Just cleaned my machine down - registry etc

Ran full virus & spyware checkers... nothing

    Rebooted

Uninstalled old Catalyst driver - installed latest version (7.4 for XP) and rebooted again

Looking at the new interface, I was toggling the varius IQ settings on and off when it 'bombed'

However, there was disk activity so I checked Task Manager

Found a new process called MOM.exe

Half of the entries for this on Google seem to suggest some kind of spyware - the other half say that it is a 'normal ATI process'

However, searching AMD.com and ATI.com for "MOM.exe" reveals 'zero results'

Spyware Terminator does not seem to see it as a risk - and it does not even get a mention in its 'unknown software' list

Does anyone know what the hell MOM.exe is - where it came from - and why it seems to install with Catalyst 7.4 (but is not mentioned on either AMD or ATI's sites ?)
    .
    .

I kept 6 trusted serving men, they taught me all I knew.
There names were what and where and why and how and when and who.

(I also had the HEXUS forums on speed dial just in case )

According to the description in the files itself, it's the ATi "Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program" - probably for keeping you posted about temps or something. It's only been introduced/changed one of the recent versions.

It's absolutely nothing to worry about though. Perfectly normal.

MOM.exe is a valid part of ATi's CCC. It's basic task is to replace the cli.exe's you'd get, grouping them all together and speeding up inter-process stuff. Boot times especially.

It does however share a name with an older piece of spyware, but that's nothing to worry about. just an unlucky coincidence.
