Working with multiple windows using a widescreen monitor

Widescreen monitors are very fashionable today and the extra desktop space it provides makes working with multiple windows on the same screen possible.

The question is how often do you run two windows side-by-side and how do you go about doing it???

I'm a fan of a multiple monitor setup and I use the nView toolbar to position windows on one screen or another. I find this very quick and there's no need to resize or move windows, just one click in the top right corner. Opening windows and dragging and resizing them seems very slow to me now.

I'm asking because I'm going to setup a new computer for a neighbour on Friday and he's ordered a 20" widescreen (Dell 2007WFP). He particularly wants to run two windows side-by-side and I wanted to tell him the best way of doing it.

How do you position a 3rd window on your 2 screen setup?

Whilst I can see your point I was kind of hoping for some more constructive feedback. I actually have a 3 monitor setup (see sig) but don't see an advantage of actually running 3 monitors on one machine, so the 3rd is hooked up to another PC only. Running two windows side-by-side is fantastic, but it's very rare for me to want to control 3 at once.

I know for example that you can right click on the taskbar and Tile windows but it seems a little fiddly. Does anyone know of a way of assigning a keyboard shortcut or perhaps another way altogether...

nVidia provide you some rather nifty software for windows, which allows you too define a 'grid'

from this you can choose maximise too grid.

So you would define a grid on your widescreen, that looks like 2 monitors side by side. Then you can easily maximise too grid.

This is essential stuff for blade users i find.
