    internal error: failed to initalise hal:

    right restart lots and nothing it still comes up.i tried a solution post here...

    which has now screwed it up so that im "not allowed" to access my own services:| THANKS for that then!
    so what do i do to fix it?seeing as the link above probably cause more damage.
    and what will happen if "hal" isn't running?

    HAL is your Hardware Abstraction Layer. If it's not working you'll find that this explains your DVDRW problem

    That said you seem to be having a hell of a lot of problems with Ubuntu - I'm all for people trying out new and exciting stuff, but at some point you have to ask yourself "is this really for me?"
