Which version? I use 2003 and it closes fine except when you try and close it when you've just started it, complain with a WMNotify error message which I've sort of tracked down to a particular add-in.

2 clients sites I've been on recently, on close it trys to sync with the exchange server but never actually completes before the "this program is not responding" dialog comes up.

Are you syncing against exchange ?

I used to get problems if i closed it and either shut down straight away or tried to load it again too quickly. I always needed to give it a few seconds to sort itself out and shut down fully first.

This was with 2003 and only using POP or IMAP accounts. i don't think "send/recieve on exit" was enabled

I'm using Office Outlook 2007 and it never (extremely rare) exits correctly. However after several months of usage I've yet to encounter a single problem with the way it "quits" - no file corrurption, etc. I've stopped worrying about it now but i always make sure I backup regularly just in case.

Just re-read this thread, and could you be a little more clear if possible about it not closing.

When you click "X" does it just do nothing, does it appear to start to close but not, does after 10 minutes the waiting for application to respond dialog box appear etc etc.
    It is Inevitable.....

When you click the X or do file exit it disappears.
But when I open it again, it opens super quick.
When I've shut it down, or appeared too, when you get an email you get the icon on the tool bar near the clock...
its almost like clicking it just makes it invisible but its still there in the background...
