    Problem with vista registration

Hi, any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I have had an OEM version of Vista Ultimate installed on my machine since the begining of February, however due to increased system instablities and crashes, i decided to do a format and fresh installation to try to resolve the problems.

This did fix all the insabilities and the os is running very well now, however when i try to register the software online it tells me that it is alread registered to another computer.

I know for a fact that this serial number is registered to my system, and i thought my computer (the hardware config has not been altered once) is suposed to generate a unique hardware code to verify this to microsoft.

I am at a loss with what to do as there does not appear to be any way in the registration to actually talk to a person about this, which would probably have the problem sorted in minutes.

I have never had this trouble with windows xp, and i have perfomed hundreds of fresh installs.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly recieved.

    There are four options:

    1) I do not have another Vista product key and need to buy a new one online.

    2) I have another Vista product key and want to type it now.

    3) Use automated phone system to activate

    4) Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem

The automated phone system hangs up when it cannot register.

And the contact microsoft option brings up the windows help box about customer support, however does not give any numbers to call.

Ian, did you call the automated number or did you talk to a human. Yes its from the UK.

If you happen to have the number still, is there any chance you could post it here?

number 3, the automated phone system I choose, u need to say that you made a significant hardware change and u have it installed on 1 pc when it asks u

    [EDIT]
It was automated first then I got through to a human who gave me my code to register, it was the same number as the automated registration...

Ok thanks for all your help.

I dialed the automated service and option 3 took put me through to a human. She gave me the number and it is all activated nicely.

    Phew what a relief.
