What would be the best way to dual boot xp and vista while using a vista upgrade edition?

Have you got two copies of XP? As far as I'm aware you can't install XP and use it again to install vista. I could be wrong though. If you can, I'd say install XP twice before installing the vista upgrade.
I wanted to use just the one copy and upgrade that and then install it again on a partition maybe. Is this possible?
I dont think so, a vista upgrade invalidates you XP Serial IIRC.

I think I'll try that and see. thanks.
nice one, let us know if it works![]()
Oh![]()
why? Seems to work fine.
Well, it is if you only have 1 license.
The standard XP one.
Install XP to a new partition and it keeps the old one, you just get a boot menu when you start up asking which one you want to use. Same license for each, as you are only ever using one at a time, and it's the same motherboard etc.
This wouldn't help with the upgrade to vista thing, as doing that specifically invalidates your old license for XP (it transfers to Vista), but the question of having two xp installs on the same hard drive is what I was refering to![]()

Well it's a bit late telling me now http://forums.hexus.net/images/smilies/bowdown.gif as all these years I've always wanted XP twice on seperate partitions (one for backup instead of using win2k), but microsoft do not advise it.
I had to un raid my hard drives before installing xp on the first partition and vista on the second partition.
would love to know how to make it boot to xp as the default rather than vista....
anyone know how??
If you prefer a GUI approach, then VistaBootPRO will take you through it.![]()
that program worked a treat!
thanks
