Question What security suite do you use?

I am currently using ZoneAlarm, but it seems to be a bit of a hog, I just want somthing simle that runs in the background, zaps spyware, scans for viruses and acts as a firewall....

I used to use McAfee, but I didn't like the last version I used of it.

    What do you guys recommend/use?

    Cheers,

    I use:

    Firewall: Windows Firewall
    Virus Scanner: AVG Free
    Anti-Spyware: Spybot Search & Destroy

all seem to do the job for me

    Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall
    Spyware: Spybot & adaware
Anti Virus: Bit-defender online virus scan
Others: CCleaner to clean up temp files, sort registry issues that sort of thing. RegScrub XP to clean the registry.

All free and have served me well for years. Some sites don't rate sygate very highly but it does the job for me. Another free firewall is Comodo but it is annoying as hell with the amount of security pop ups it gives you. Bottom line here is that there is absolutely no need to pay for a security suite.

I heard Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) is supposed to be the best...

I'm using ZoneAlarm, and its always slowing down the system. Also, getting intermittent download errors with updates now. I only got it on the recommendation of PCPro magazine.

NOD32 is really good, quick scans and leaves a small footprint.

PCTools have free firewall and anti-virus tools, and are vista compatible.

Comodo also do free firewall, anti-malware and anti-virus tools.
They are not vista compatible, but are due to release some beta versions very soon.

    Hope this helps!

I'm using version 7.0.337.000. The problem is with Spyware updates, engine version is 5.0.162.0, and DAT file version is 01.200704.1445.

The error message is "Anti-spyware : Cannot patch spyware database".

Versions are exactly the same for me except that the DAT file version is 01.200705.1585

Have you tried a manual update, if all else fails remove and do a re-install but at the install don't import any current settings.
