Doesn't the file manager in Linux usually have ftp in it? Think I've used that before on other distros.
Or as ikonia said, just type ftp...
I use gFTP. FileZilla 3 is also available for GNU/Linux. It's in beta, but it seemed stable when I used it. It's also in the Ubuntu and Debian repositories.

If you're only downloading, wget is good (better than shell ftp) - supports restarts.

Another vote for gFTP if you want a classic GUI-based FTP client. It supports ssh connections too which I use a lot![]()
Yet another vote for gFTP

I'm looking for an FTP client that will synchronize data over a partially reliable link. It also needs to have automation features. Any suggestions?

Yet another vote for gFTP. I needed to ftp to my website tonight. I thought "Sh!t, this is going to be awkward." as I'd only used WIndows before and ftp can be a black art sometimes... installed gFTP and berlimey! Simple, easy to use, no arsing around FTPing. Good work fella!

Basically an atuomation feature that I need is the ability to select which files and folders are going to be transfered at a certain time and date and just have it work without any supervision.
thats a shell script with rsync/wget/scp (pick one).

If the link between the server and the client goes down, does rsync automatically resume the file download from the point where the link went down?
yup, on the next pass
