    Vista Sidebar gone

    Hi,

Yesterday I booted up my PC and the sidebar didn't load - so I tried to launch it manually but no luck there either. The only thing I have installed since it last worked was Goggle Talk. So I un-installed that and rebooted but the sidebar still doesn't work

    Any ideas?

I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Check to see if it created a restore point. If it has you should be able to roll back to before it went missing. As long as you haven't made any significant changes in the meantime of course.

How far back did you roll it? Before 07-06-2007? Can you open it manually from the program search bar in the start menu? If you can it may just have set to no longer start on startup...although how that would happen withought you setting it yourself I'm not sure. Then again, this is Windows we're talking about here

Rejoice! For the blasted resource hog is dead! I took it out of my Windows install with vLite (no, turning it off is not enough - what about the disk space!) but your method looks interesting too, if poorly documented

I couldn't roll that far back unfortunatley
It doesn't open manually either - even just running the .exe program doesn't launch the sidebar.

Hmm, I take it that the .exe is still present then, or is it just the shortcut? I'm very new to Vista and I'm not sure how many restore points it allows. I'm assuming that you've usek the check box on the restore program to show more than the last 5 restore points.

I suppose you could try removing it from the windows components and then adding it again, although I wouldn't recommend that if you don't have a Vista disc to insert if it starts asking for files from the installation disc.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm out of ideas. Perhaps you could try Google.

    Thanks for the help.

I already tried Google but to no avail so far. I also thought of the Windows Compenent but it isn't an option to remove from there.
