    No sound for live or recorded TV!?

    Ive just setup a new PC running MCE 2005.

    Sound is fine around windows and when navigating the menu in MCE. Avi files work fine, but playing recorded or live tv there is no sound. The picture is fine though.

    Ive got powerdvd 7.2 installed as the decoder and have also tried the latest k-lite codec pack. I have the latest sound and tv card drivers.

    Any ideas why theres no sound!? Seems strange it works in everything but TV

    Media PC Specs are:
    Pinnacle DVB-T PCI
    Intel Celeron D 2.4Ghz
    Asus P4P800-VM (using onboard sound, but not video)
    1Gb PC3200 RAM
    ATi 9250 Low Profile AGP
    160Gb SATA HDD
    Antec Minuet Case

    Have you used the speaker setup wizard? I had awful sound when I was playing DVDs on my media centre, but was fine in live tv mode, it corrected itself when I ran the wizard. Can be found in Settings->General->Media Center Setup->Setup my speakers.

    Do you get sound through TV when using the tuners own software? This may help pin it down to either media centre or your tv tuners drivers maybe?

    Right, just installed the Pinnacle TV software and its working fine through that, still no audio in MCE for TV.

    Anyone got any ideas? Im gonna reinstall windows and see if that makes a difference. Failing that I'll give Vista a try, but I dont want to given that its only running a Celeron D 2.4Ghz

    It could be the K-lite codec pack thats causing the audio not to work correctly as these packs can cause all sorts of issues.

    I installed the codec pack after the audio wasnt working just to rule out any missing codecs, but it made no difference.

    Ahh fair enough. Just thought I'd mention it as I put it on my MCE2005 system and the TV went off image-wise and I have to do a clean install to get it working again.

    ive had this on a clients computer, and couldnt solve it... Terrestrial signal yielded no sound, however Digital did, so it wasnt too much of a problem - still no idea why it occured tho!

    Hmmm, thats not a good sign. Im using a Pinnacle DVB-T PCI card, so its digital.

    Its got to be something to do with the MCE codecs or something for playing TV. Sound works fine playing mpeg, avi etc in MCE, just nothing to do with live or recorded TV.

    The strange thing is that the Pinnacle software plays TV fine!

    I might just sell the Celeron and ATi 9250, the buy a P4 and a Vista compatible vga card. Then try Vista MCE and see if that works.

    Update:
    I formatted and reinstalled MCE 2005 last night and now all seems to be working fine - very wierd.

    However, I noticed that using the same TV card and the same aerial, my Vista PC finds 63 channels, but the MCE 2005 machine only finds 45 channels!!! Any ideas? Ive scanned more times than I remember.

    Ive got things missing like E4, but Ive got E4+1 - very frustrating. The Vista PC finds everything and my freeview box has all these channels!

    Any idea what transmitter you're pointing at?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Yeah, Emley Moor. When I scan it comes up with about 5 - Ive tried them all!!

    Emley Moor is the transmitter my freeview box is running off and the signal strength is between 94% to 100%, so I use that one in MCE too. Its really odd.

    Not only does it not pick up E4 at all, it doesnt display the EPG info for ITV 1 or 2 - despite the freeview box doing so!!!
