Well I decided to make the most of my MSNDN-AA registration and got myself a copy of Vista (business). And to cut a long story short I can't install it. Here's a run down of how it went:
Booted the CD - please wait
Wait a while
Have dinner
Prompt for language settings - set to English UK and click go
Please wait
Try on a shirt and tie, the fit's a bit baggy but it should be fine
Still waiting
Give my mum a lift
Sort out the car stereo (been in the garage for a new clutch and needed the code to unlock it)
Can't find drivers - click to try looking again
Wait a long time
Still can't find drivers
Click browse
Wait a long time, no folders show up
Give up and click X and quit.
Now through all the complaining about a lack of drivers, it never said what for! I'm completely at a loss of where to start and am wondering whether to just go back to XP.
System: WinFast N570SM2AA mobo, X2 3800+, 2gig crucial ram, Radeon 7000 PCI graphics (will go shopping soon...), Seagate sata hdd, Sony/NEC dvd-rw.
There's no excess things in there to unplug to see if one of them is the problem. It's a fairly stardard nForce 570 SLI chipset on the mobo and I'm not using raid or anything silly in bios (hardly touched the bios).
Anyone know where I should start? Thanks!

It's very early on in the install process so maybe it could be looking for a storage controller driver? But without raid and the hdd and dvd drive on the standard onboard controller it really shouldn't be an issue.
