Just made/making a new website and need some thoughts about the design and possibly the content.
Any constructive points would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

very nice and clean
Critisism points
way too much white
looks like a template a bit too much
google adds look terrible and cramped.
It is Inevitable.....
Thanks, I value your points - to target the excessive whiteness I'm thinking of faint diagonal lines as a background behind the main section of the site. DO you think this will work? Do you have any suggestions? I'll design them and see what it looks like.
I agree with your point about the google ads, altho' as you may have seen, they're not real - I haven't actually set up a google account yet!I've been looking at https://www.google.com/adsense/stati...AdFormats.html and have been trying to find a decent fit. I'm thinking of using the "Skyscraper" instead of the "Wide Skyscraper" which is what i'm using currently.
The template problem I'm finding difficult to overcome as it is a CMS (basic tho' it is).
Any other critisism much wanted!
When you hover over the top menu links, the user should still be able to see the text. It might seem pointless but it will make it more visually pleasing, I propose that the red font you have would work well there. This next one maybe just personal preference but it might be worth putting some padding between the centre text and the left/right columns, it will help it look more orderly. 5px each side should be enough. Hope this is of use to you.
EDIT: By the way, at this stage you really shouldn't worry about what any potential google ads might look like, and what the best format is. The main priority is getting the website looking as you want it and functioning as you want it.

The text in the navigation is a little too small for my liking. You can never go wrong with making your text a bit bigger.
I would maybe put a form based contact form on the site instead of just a mailto: link. What if you don't have something like outlook that can handle the link?
I've changed the background so as to remove some whitespace - what's your take on it...?
Thanks for the above comments by the way

The background does look a lot better now.
I still think you should look at writing a contact form instead of the mailto: link. They are nice and easy to write using something like php sendmail functions, and look a lot better than the mailto link.
Have a google about, you can knock one up in minutes
Nice changes and updates.
The title image reflection doesn't work a its out of position so high up so the reflection just stops.
the header banner "area" looks massive and just a waste of space.
google Adds area sucks, google adds make a site look like a cheap "spam" site
The members box looks out of alignment dues to the centering of the options box.
Much better step forward though.

The text is, in my opinion, far too small. This is often one of the most complained about aspects of websites. Also, things like the header don't scale nicely with the page, but all the crucial parts, and the majority of the non-crucial parts, do scale nicely, so it may or not be worth fixing. Incidentally, the page cannot be larger in Internet Explorer 6, presumably due to using fixed measurements.
Short version: I find the text too small, and would like to enlarge it, but cannot in Internet Explorer 6.
"Well, there was your Uncle Tiberius who died wrapped in cabbage leaves but we assumed that was a freak accident."
All text is now fully zoomable and I've added a email form.
I know the google area sucks, but I need adverts to at least TRY and get some money (even if I don't).
Are there any other, better advertising services? - actually that might be a good topic for a new thread...
