    temps...

    Running lm-sensors in Ubuntu...
i have one reading at 47c which is what it is according to the asus-probe software in windows but i also have one at 57c!!!! which is what the motherboard tells me it is... So I'm pretty unsure and worried which temp is right as I don't really want 57c of heat on my cpu!...
so which is right and why do I in linux have 2 temp readings for a single core socket-a cpu:S

is it running that hot in windows ?
I have no ideas about the safe operating temperatures of ati video cards.

I'm not sure how the windows apps work on ati - but can you not boot into windows and set the parameters for the card you want there, is it software controlled or hardware ?

With regard to ATI applications and drivers, there are applications out there in the ubuntu repo, however I don't trust them out all due to the buggy and flakey nature of ati in general.

Look at better cooling in your machine perhaps, more so if it runs as hot under windows.
    It is Inevitable.....

    sorry for the late reply...
yeah cheers man.i can set it for bootup or when entering windows xp...
turns out its not a problem as gpu's are supposed to go quite high ... apparently?
so I'm leaving it as it is as if I up the speed of the fan I'll be cutting its lifespan.
as for cooling in general I'm getting a 120mm fan kit for a 80mm heatsink (my aero7+) not sure how that will work out but the fans 79cfm so even though it won't be covering the cpu/hsf full-on directly it should still provide more than adequate cooling when compared to a 80mm- atleast that's what I'm hoping
    wish me luck.
I could update the thread and let you know how it gets on when its fitted? Should have the parts by weds... its a Evercool 120mm and an Akasa 80-120mm bracket kit. should do the job i reckon and for 35p shy over a tenner its worth a try
    what do you think.
