    When will they learn?

I was arsing around with BootMagic the other day NOT creating rescue floppies as usual, when it messed up and I had to reinstall windows.

"Haha, your own fault!" I hear you say. However I have a drive structure in place that means I've lost nothing - reinstalling windows is the only inconvenience.

My issue is - I DON'T USE A FLOPPY DRIVE in that machine - no use for it, except "rescue disks." A drive image program I have by Acronis has the right idea - you can burn a rescue CD.

Surely companies should start to catch on - start making the option to create CD's (it's also sad that XP Setup can't read 3rd party drivers from CD.)

Floppy drives are just not much use any more.

Perhaps I'm ranting, but is anybody with me on this?

    Unts.

The floppy is long dead, unfortunately software companies still won't let you write to anything else!

Latest Drive image also lets you create a bootable CD.

I ended up using RIS to boot floppy drive images from the PXE environment. Not an option for most people, but then again, PE-Builder should help a lot of peeps.

Ah, good old Bart - his boot floppies (LOL!) made my backup scheme at school very useful.

Shamefully the technicians don't know what they're doing, so even though I don't go there anymore, I still have to add drivers to the disks for them.

I might do a CD for them someday.

Floppy disks are still used probably because their capacity is near ideal for small utilitys like the ones that partition magic uses. Its pretty pointless burning a program just a few 100K in size to a CD and then waste nearly 98/99% of the CD.

Although i do agree that floppy disks should be shot of. Most laptops these days dont have them.

But when a blank cd costs as little as 20p, that becomes irrevant. Rewritable cds arnt much more either.

The sooner you can use cds instead of floppy's the beter!

Why dont they release 8cm Rewritable disc's there perfect for replacing floppys. Or replace them with sum thing like the mini disc, that would fit nice in the 3.5" bay.
