    Problems with XP Pro

I have a mesh desktop at home and have reinstalled the above os due to several probs I was having. Believed this would sort things out if I tried to return pc to manufacturers settings, but in doing this I now have several drivers wiped out. I have also installed sp2 but this has not worked. The motherboard is an ASUS S7v8 and need to find where I can download all the drivers required,

    PCI simple communications controller
    Multimedia Audio Controller
    Ethernet controller + a.n. other

As you can imagine the ethernet controller would be the most important as I am unable to get onto the net to activate windows or update the other drivers. ( I also have the family complaining they can't get onto their e-mails)

    Any suggestions would be great.

    thanks guys

I can't find anything on ASUS' site about an S7v8 motherboard.
Try giving MESH a call and see if they can help you out.
Didn't you get a motherboard support CD with all that on, or even a MESH recovery CD.

Other than trying the above you're limited to what you can do unless you can locate those CDs.

    He isnt limited at all.
    The mobo is either:
a). Harder to find. ASUS site is poo so google for the drivers.
b). Its one of those dodgy OEM boards so MESH would have to give the driver disk back.

They stick all the drivers on a partition (which has been formatted) but you can get the drivers for any mobo.

The ethernet ones are prolly generic drivers anyway tbh.

well he put a V in th emobo name so i would say VIA chipset ?

    http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1

if you click on any of the device links it will offer a link to driver agent. it may tell you what via drivers you need.

Can you not login to your mesh account, The drivers you need should be on their site somewhere?

Also, have you asked on the mesh site in this forum? Davey is usually very helpful.

You've got to find out which chipset your motherboard use to know exactly which drivers you're going to need because PCI simple communications controller driver usually comes with chipset driver. Multimedia Audio Controller is for your audio device but again if you don't know which one it is then it is hard to look for the right driver. Same can be said for Ethernet controller too. I also googled your mobo model name but haven't got much success in locating those mobo specific drivers. So maybe best thing you can do is to contact MESH directly (you can use their forum I guess) and ask where you can obtain those driver from or you need to give us more detail of your system by getting system summary from utility such as EVEREST.

Download ubuntu in the meantime, it'll probably work straight off the bat and at least people'll have access to emails etc.

before randomly recommending linux to people to fix problem, how about checking if things are supported first before recommending random solution.

I can't find any reference to a motherboard called an Asus S7 - certainly nothing on an S7 V8

You've not posted anything since sat, so don't know if you can get online (or use the pc at all), but if you can, download SIW from http://www.gtopala.com/ , you can run it from the .exe so you don't have to install it. This will tell you just about anything you could want to know about your pc (including the details about the mobo).

Read my post: "Download ubuntu in the meantime, it'll probably work straight off the bat and at least people'll have access to emails etc."

It wasn't a permanent fix. It was a suggestion to let people find a way to use the computer whilst he finds a more permanent solution

looking at the chaps comments he's not comfortable using the familier microsoft OS, so therefore dabbling with LiveCD's on an alien os is probably not even a good solution to get him on line.

I understand the point of what your saying, but surly just contacting mesh support and asking for the driver CD or the exact model number of what he bought is the correct course of action.

Assuming he is confident enough to use it, yes - otherwise it wont do him any good.

I must admit, LiveCD's are wondeful things for when OS installs break! (usually through me being a bit thick!)
