Question Triple booting XP, Vista and Ubuntu Linux

    Hi

Call me mad if you will but I wondered if anyone had tried doing the above.

What I'm talking about doing is the following:

Setting up three partitions, two NTFS and one FAT.

On the NTFS partitions I would install XP, one of which I would upgrade to Vista (I bought the upgrade version)

The reason for my madness is that I have a few games that just arent happy under Vista so want to play them under XP but at the same time, with the likes of Alan Wake coming out I dont want to be without Vista and I have to know about it for work anyway.

I also want to dabble with Linux to add another OS string to my bow if you know what I mean.

    Any advice gratefully received

just install linux last, i think (check with the linux users) that the bootloader will have all three OS's configured for you when installing linux, or theres a good program for vista called easybcd, iirc there was an option to sort out putting an linux based OS onto the bootloader

just check with someone else first though

    Hi

I have done this on my home pc, and ended up with a complicated setup, but i have completely separated all three o/s boots, and I use xosl as the boot manager, but this involved a lot of messing around and creation of a number of small partitions for each o/s to boot from.

You can get away with installing XP, then vista, then ubuntu, and it should all work ok, grub (the ubuntu boot loader) will boot first and pass you onto the vista boot manager, and then if you want xp you will have to get vista to pass you to the xp boot via vista's boot menu. I didn't want the hassle of that, so each install is separate and xosl will boot directly into each one without messing around going through layers of boot menus

Let me know if you are interested and I can tell you what I did.

    Cheers

    Matt
