    Cool Aston Shell Replacement

    www.astonshell.com

I just replaced the explorer shell with this. It's very slick, and I like it better than litestep shell too. It's very nice to configure and mess about with.

Now I have less chance of explorer.exe crashing, but explorer.exe is still used for folder browsing, so does anybody know of a replacement file manager similar in style to explorer, but a bit less bloated and crashy?

edit: Explorer just crashed! wooo! At least my start menu and stuff doesn't disappear anymore when that happens!

Mmmm, nice! Looks uber sexy! Am gonna try and get it now!

Did you design that desktop yourself or is it a standard?

:edit: I've just seen it, it's the insignia -special- theme isn't it? Very nice. Gonna look around for others though, see what they got!

Yeah it is the skin you identified - I just looked quickly for a half decent one. It took a bit of tweaking - but that's what replacement shells are all about.

I actually downloaded it to see what it looks like, and it's rather smart. But I get this annoying white box flashing in the top left corner showing free memory and HDD space but it covers half the clock. Weird...

What skin you using? I don't have that - would like it though, if I can avert the flashing.

    Found it. If you want it it's a Plug-in called -=Desk Top Info=- v 1.4.0

    I just disabled it.

Ah, right, I found two different plugins and installed them - one for CPU/mem/network and one for disk space - it's coming along nicely.

Oh my god, after initially making my PC continuously 'recover from a serious windows error' and restarting it, this thing is pretty sweet Doesn't really like the 1280x1024 res tho :/

Wel Raz, it's all about getting the right skin and setting it up right. I'm lucky to run on the well used and tested 1024*

Right click on the desktop and select Plug-ins from the left hand menu. Once open you should see -=DeskTop Info=- v 1.4.0 on the right side. Untick the box to disable it. Job done!

Is it easy to install and setup??

I looked at a few after the article in custom PC but all the freeware stuff looked uber hard to setup.
