Vista Network Device "tunnel" adapters and IPV6
I've just put a Windows Vista machine onto my network.
in the network properties options for the network card I uncked the "IPV6" options.
If I view the network status I see
"IPV4 Local connection
IPV6 Limited"
Why is IPV6 limited connection ?? I've disabled it, it should be "no connection"
I've also noted (this machine has 1 physical nic in it with 1 IP address) the if I do an "ipconfig" I see the following details.
Quote:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-dns.co.uk
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.11.216.6
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.11.216.1
Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 6:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 7:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-dns.co.uk
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5efe:10.11.216.6%10
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
What the heck are these "tunnel adapters" ??? and why is adapter 7 not showing as media disconnected. I have no private networking/vpn/sharing/crap setup, just one box, one card, one static IP on cable.
Re: Vista Network Device "tunnel" adapters and IPV6
I have tried all that - it doesn't seem to connect at all - even when I disable everything as denoted in the error message 'an error occured while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo - Interface 1 - The system cannot find the file specified.
The operation faled as no adaptor is in the state permissible for the operation
What do I do now?
It would be straightforward if it wasn't Vista!
