    problem activating XP home oem

ello chaps. quick question - the misses has an old laptop running xp home in a rather battered state, so I thought i'd wipe it clean, start again. The product key worked fine during install, but now when i come to activate it tells me the key is wrong. The key is printed on the bottom of the laptop on one of those sticker things, so fairly certain its legit - could the problem be that i've installed xp home oem SP2, and that key only works for straight xp home?

    Cheers for any help

The SP shouln't make any difference, though if it's been activated loads of times recently it could be that it's been flagged for special attention. I assume none of the hardware has changed?

Whenever i get problems like this i just get on the phone and get onto the system and usually it gets sorted no problems. (think we've had the phone number on here listed twice in recent weeks)

activate with no internet, it soon gives you the phone option to the free uk number, thats the only way to activate a spent OEM licence.

I called Microsoft for this once too. They didn't care in the slightest and they didn't even ask me what my key was! They just basically said, "Uhh yeh... whatever... type in this key XXXXXX" and gave me a new key.

So hopefully it will be that easy for you too.
