    question about ntbackup.exe

Hi, I've made a few backups with ntbackup, and I'd like to be able to ADD files to those backups, instead of creating a new backup alltogether. Is there any way or method I can access the .bkf files and add selected files from my desktop to the destination in the backup? It would really help if I could, as ntbackup has proven to be an annoying pain to deal with as it is.

Can you not just perform an incremental backup?

Well, no, not really. I've changed around my file structure a little since my last incremental backup(a month ago), and when I looked into doing another incremental, I got like a 7 gig estimate for the incremental(bear in mind I want to back up 6 files). For backing up a few files that are under a gig, this is total BS. And I am not going to move everything back into it's original destination just to appease NTbackup. I suppose I could just choose incremental and then highlight the very few files I want to back up, but then if I ever try and do a full restore, I'm going to have to lug that stupid incremental around. It really gets in the way and it would just be so much simpler if I could just add the few files I want backed up into the original file backup. I understand there are a few technical complications with the idea, but still it should at least be an option.

So I'm looking for a way (or 3rd party program, whatever) to be able to view the ntbackup file(.bks) and then add files to the backup. I'm sure it's possible, I just don't know how to go about accomplishing it.

about 2 gigs(30 files), to my external HD, which is also housing a few incremental backups as well as a full backup. The thing here is organization, as I could just manually move the files over to the HD and back them up that way, but then I'd always have to remember what and where I manually backed up *those* files, instead of being able to stick them into one big saved archive and call it good. In retrospect, using ntbackup wasn't such a good idea....

It's a bit more Mickey Mouse, but have you consider the MS "Power Tool" SyncToy?

Sorry, I don't have enough posts to post the URL but you can find it by searching the Microsoft main page.

I have not played with synctoy but apparently it is pretty good. Could you write an xcopy batch file and schedule this to copy your your 30 files.
There is a switch that will only copy the files if the source file is newer than the destination.
Fire up cmd and type xcopy /? for details.
