    Reasons for Windows Workgroups?

    All,

I'm just having a moment here............ I was wondering what the point was in having Windows Workgroups? What does it actually do?

We have a shared office on several different workgroups and we can still see other share points in different workgroup names? i thought, if you weren't in the workgroup then you wouldn't be able to see other workgroup share points.

    Thanks all

    Darren

Its a netbios thing for when you have a peer level group.

    theres no common authentication etc.

If you want proper authentication you'll need to use a domain.

    Thanks Moby.

Reason i ask is because someone asked me the question and i couldn't give an answer.

They also asked about what the Domain does, but i know the "in's and outs" of that.

Lots of bug fixes over your base Windows 3.1, I bet it boots up quicker than vista too
